Outlook Users Face Zero-Day Attack

Microsoft is warning of a new “zero-day attack” on Outlook users.

Zero-day attacks refer to previously unknown vulnerabilities in computer applications that hackers exploit before the developer becomes aware of them.

In this case, a bug in Microsoft Word’s Rich Text Format (RTF) is leaving users open to attacks. A user who previews or opens a malicious RTF e-mail message in Outlook can give the attacker remote access to the computer, including the same system privileges as the user.
