App of the Week: Zite 2.0

Another of the apps I use nearly everyday, Zite bills itself as an “intelligent magazine”.

Here’s how it works.  Once you download the app, you create a free account and configure the app by adding categories of news that interest you.  The categories are wide ranging from politics to sports to technology to lifestyle to international news.  The beauty of the app is that you pick the categories that interest you and Zite assembles relevant news articles into an online magazine customized just for you.  As you read articles you give them a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” rating and the app will give you more or fewer articles from those sources.  So, over time, Zite learns what you like and don’t like and continues to adjust its selections accordingly.

The latest version of Zite knows about 40,000 different topics and includes Facebook integration.   There are Zite versions for iOS (iPhone and iPad), Android and Windows Phone 7.

Simply put, it’s a great app for quickly getting news that interests you and is a great example of a modern tablet app.
